Before a release, analysts and enthusiast trackers open booking pages, count the sold seats for a sample of screenings and log them in a spreadsheet. Box office forums and newsletters publish such counts for big releases, and many distributors do the same in-house.
The usual way is enough when
- You follow one or two titles in a handful of cinemas.
- You need a quick look and have the time to click through.
- You have no budget for data.
SEATmio is the better fit when
- You need every screening of every chain in a market, not a sample.
- You want the count repeated without anyone doing it.
- You follow several titles or markets at once and want history to compare against.
Side by side
Using both
It is the same idea, done at scale. If your team already counts seats, SEATmio removes the clicking and the gaps, and keeps a history you can compare the next release with.
Where SEATmio falls short
A fair comparison has to say this too.
- SEATmio estimates tickets from seat maps. It does not measure box office revenue, and seats sold at the counter after our last read are not included, so our figures can differ from official grosses.
- We only see chains that publish seat maps online. Some chains and markets are missing, and some are read less often than others.
- For most chains our history starts when we began reading them. Presale curves are recorded from September 2026, so comparisons with past releases get richer over time.
- We count seats, not people: no demographics, awareness or intent to watch.
