What box office totals cannot tell you
Official box office arrives late, summed per film and per weekend, and in many markets not at all. SEATmio starts from the individual seat.

Questions we are asked
Where does the data come from?
From the seat maps cinemas publish for online booking. Every ticketing system shows which seats in a room are taken; we read those maps repeatedly for every screening in our coverage. No agreements with cinemas, no personal data: we see seats, never who bought them.
How accurate is it?
We count occupied seats, which means tickets sold and seats held in a booking. The final read is taken minutes before the show. It is not a count of people who actually walked in, and seats sold at the box office after our last read are not included.
How fresh is it?
Same day. Screenings are read throughout presales and again shortly before they start, so yesterday's results are complete in the morning and today's presales are visible as they happen.
Do you have historical data?
For selected chains, yes: complete screening-level history going back years, in one case to 2019. For most others our history starts when we began reading them and grows every day.
Do you measure box office revenue?
SEATmio measures tickets and seats, not money. Revenue estimates based on average ticket prices can be prepared on request.
